ITINERARY

DAY 1 - US/CAIRO   Fly from your home to New York and join our EgyptAir flight to Cairo, or fly to Cairo on your own.

DAY 2 - CAIRO Upon your arrival in Cairo you will be met by Museum Tours staff and taken to the 5-Star Mena House Hotel, the "Palace at the Foot of the Pyramids". There will be a Welcome Reception in the evening. 

DAY 3 - GIZA This morning  we will tour the Giza Plateau, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Solar Boat museum, the Valley Temple of Khafra and the Sphinx. After lunch you can relax at the hotel or join us for a walking to of the Plateau, visiting the pyramids of Khafra and Menkaura.

DAY 4 - SAQQARA / LUXOR This morning we will drive to Saqqara where we will see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the Pyramid and causeway of Unas and the Pyramid of Teti with its pyramid texts. After lunch we will visit the outdoor museum at the ancient capitol of Memphis before heading to the airport for our flight to Luxor.  Upon arrival we will transfer to the Pavilion section of the Winter Palace Hotel.

DAY 5 - LUXOR -  Today we will begin our exploration of the Valley of the Kings.  We will explore 4 tombs, conducting our exploration in chronological order. First, we will visit the seldom seen tomb KV20, burial place of Hatshepsut. This will be followed by visits to KV 34, tomb of Thutmose III, and two royal reburials, KV38 (Thutmose I) and KV42 (Thutmose II?). After a late lunch you can either return to the hotel or join us for an optional visit the temple of Hatshepsut at Dier el Bahri. 

Study Leader (Tentative)

Edwin "Ted" Brock has lived in Egypt  since 1983. He obtained a B.A. and M.A. in history from the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he majored in ancient history and Near Eastern studies, including Arabic. He has done graduate studies at the University of Toronto where his dissertation is a study of New Kingdom royal sarcophagi.

Ted first came to Egypt in 1981 as a member of the University of Toronto Wadi Tumilat Project working in the East Delta. In addition to four seasons with that project, he has also participated in excavations with the Akhenaten Temple Project at East Karnak, the Dakhlah Oasis Project, New York University's Apis Embalming House Project at Memphis and the Royal Ontario Museum Lahun Expedition.

Ted was a member of the Theban Mapping Project and was co-director of the Amenmeses Project, involved in the clearance and documentation of KV 10 (and the discovers of KV63). He has also been involved for many years documenting the New Kingdom royal sarcophagi of the post-Amarna period.

He participated as project photographer for three seasons with the American Research Center in Egypt Field School and as Egyptological consultant and photographer for the Valley of the Kings Research Group. Between 1983 and 1994 he served as director of the Canadian Institute in Egypt.

DAY 6 - LUXOR -  We will return to the Valley of the Kings to continue our exploration of the tombs of the Kings of the 18th Dynasty. Those who wish may join us for a hike along the ancient trail from the workers village of Dier el Medina, over the hill, to the Valley of the Kings. After arriving in the valley we will explore KV35, tomb of Amenhotep II, KV43, tomb of Thutmose IV, and KV46, tomb of Tuya & Yuya (the mother-in-law and father-in-law of Amenhotep III). We will end our day with a drive to the Western Valley to visit KV22, the tomb of Amenhotep III.

DAY 7 - LUXOR -  Today we will complete our visits to the 18th Dynasty Royal Tombs, exploring KV55, the Amarna Royal Cache, KV62, the tomb of Tutankhamun, KV23, the Western Valley tomb of Ay, and KV57, the tomb of Horemheb.

DAY 8 - LUXOR -Today we will take a break form the tombs and enjoy a free day. If you wish you can join us for an optional visits to Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple and the Luxor Museum.

DAY 9 - LUXOR - We will begin today exploring the tombs of the 19th Dynasty Pharaohs with KV16, the tomb of Rameses I. We will then visit 3 of the most famous, but least seen tombs, KV17, tomb of Seti I, KV7, tomb of Rameses II, and KV5, tomb of the sons of Rameses II. After a late lunch you can return to the hotel or join us for an optional visit to the Ramessium, mortuary temple of Rameses II.

DAY 10 - LUXOR - Today we will complete our visits to the 19th Dynasty Royal Tombs, exploring KV8, tomb of Merenptah, KV10, tomb of Amenmesse, KV15, tomb of Seti II, KV47, tomb of Siptah and KV14, tomb of Tausert and Setnakht.

DAY 11 - LUXOR - We will cross the Nile and begin our exploration of the tombs of the kings of the 20th Dynasty. Having visited the tomb of Setnakht yesterday, we will begin with KV11, tomb of Rameses III. We will also visit KV3, tomb of the sons of Ramese III, and KV2, tomb of Rameses IV. After lunch you can return to the hotel or join us for an optional visit to Medinet Habu, Mortuary Temple of Rameses III.

DAY 12 - LUXOR - Our final day of exploration will include KV9, tomb of Rameses V and Rameses VI, KV1, tomb of RamesesVII, KV6, tomb of Rameses IX, KV18, tomb of Rameses X, and finally KV 4, tomb of Rameses XI. You will notice we are not visiting the tomb of Rameses VIII. If we could find it we would visit it, but it has not yet been discovered.

DAY 13 - LUXOR / CAIRO - Your last day in Luxor is free to relax, explore new sites or revisit favorite old sites. this evening we will fly to Cairo and transfer to the Nile Hilton.

DAY 14 - CAIRO -The day will be devoted to the Cairo Museum. In the evening, we will visit the world famous Khan el Khalili bazaar for our farewell dinner.

DAY 15 - CAIRO/USA   We will depart from the Cairo airport for our return flights to the USA, hopefully with a checklist full to overflowing.

About the Tour
 
The tour includes stays in the garden wing of the Mena House (Pyramid view), the Pavilion at the Winter Palace and the Nile Hilton. All normal meals and water are included as well as airport transfers, transportation within egypt, admissions to listed sights and a full time guide throughout. If you choose to participate in activities listed as optional you will be responsible for paying your own admissions.
 
Minimum participation is 20, maximum is 30 (subject to change).
