Description

Egypt 25 is a 15 day tour that begins on the first and third Sunday of each month in 2022, except for January and December (see specific start-dates below). This tour was designed for those who want to get the most out of their trip to Egypt at the lowest possible cost. It includes the major sights of Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, as well as visits to a number of lesser known sites.
Itinerary

Day 1, Sunday - Cairo
You will be met upon your arrival in Cairo and assisted through passport control and customs. Our van will then drive you to your hotel, located near the pyramids.

Day 2, Monday - Cairo
We will spend the day exploring the Giza Plateau. Begin with a visit to the Pyramid of Khufu (the only remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), several private tombs, the timeless Sphinx, and the Valley Temple of Khafra. After lunch, you can either return to the hotel to relax or enjoy a walking tour to visit the Pyramids of Khafra and Menkara, explore their Mortuary Temples and an ancient limestone quarry.

Day 3, Tuesday - Cairo
We begin our day by driving to the necropolis at Saqqara, site of the Step Pyramid of Djoser, and visiting the Imhotep Museum. We will then wander through the Step Pyramid complex and explore the Pyramids of Unis and Teti (with their ancient pyramid texts). While here we will examine the Tomb of the Nobleman, Kagemni. After a late lunch we will drive to the ancient capital of Memphis to visit the outdoor museum and the beautiful Colossus of Rameses II. Finally, we will have the opportunity to visit a local carpet school.

Day 4, Wednesday - Cairo
The day will be spent exploring the new Grand Egyptian Museum and the Treasures of Tutankhamum. The date for opening the museum has not been announced. If it is not open at the time of your visit, another sightseeing opportunity will be provided. This evening we will catch our overnight train to Luxor,

Day 5, Thursday - Luxor
Upon our arrival in Luxor we will explore Karnak, the world's largest temple complex (built over a period of more than a thousand years), where we have scheduled plenty of time for wandering around. Not to be missed is the outdoor museum and the Temple of Khonsu. After lunch we will visit the small but beautiful Luxor Museum. This will be followed by free time to relax or shop.

Day 6, Friday - Luxor
Today, we take the bridge across the Nile to the West Bank, then a short drive will bring us to the Valley of the Kings where we will visit as many of the open tombs as time allows (including the Tombs of Tutankhamun and Rameses IV). After leaving the Valley, we will stop for a short visit to Howard Carter's house, which has been converted into a museum. The afternoon includes a visit to Deir el Medina, the ancient village of the workers who built the Pharaohs' tombs, with its small Ptolemaic Temple and the beautifully preserved Tomb of Sennedjem. From there a short drive will take us to Medinet Habu, temple of Rameses III and the best preserved of the New Kingdom temples, before returning to our hotel.

Day 7, Saturday - Luxor
We will return to the West Bank to visit the Ramesseum, the mortuary temple of Rameses II. Then on to the Valley of the Queens, and the Tombs of Khaemwaset and Amenherkhepshef, two young sons of Rameses III. Finally, we will stop for a photo opportunity at the Colossi of Memnon, statues of Amenhotep III that once stood before his temple.

Day 8, Sunday - Luxor
In the morning we will visit Luxor Temple. The remainder of the day is free to explore Luxor on your own.

Day 9, Monday - Luxor
We will cross the Nile once more to visit Deir el Bahri and the Temple of Hatshepsut, the female king. Afterward we will have the opportunity to explore several nobles tombs located in the area.

Day 10, Tuesday - Luxor/Aswan
Today we will drive from Luxor to Aswan, stopping to visit the Temple at Edfu (the best-preserved temple on the Nile) and the twin Temples of Sobek and Horus at Kom Ombo along the way.

Day 11, Wednesday - Aswan
Our van will take us to the ancient granite quarry with the Unfinished Obelisk of King Hatshepsut (or perhaps Thutmose III). Our adventure will continue with a visit to the Temple of Isis at Philae, perhaps Egypt's most beautiful temple. Our day will end with a visit to the New Nubia Museum.

Day 12, Thursday - Aswan/Cairo
Enjoy a relaxing felucca ride on the Nile to visit the archeological site at Elephantine Island, the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener's Island and the 6th and 12th Dynasty Nobles' Tombs on the West Bank.

Day 13, Friday - Aswan
You will have a free day in Aswan until it is time to catch our train for the overnight, return journey to Cairo.

Day 14, Saturday - Cairo
This morning will be spent at the Egyptian Museum, where we will see the amazing treasures of Egypt's past. Then we'll wander through Old Cairo with its Christian and Jewish past, the Citadel of Saladin and the Alabaster Mosque. This evening, join us for our farewell dinner in the world-famous Khan el Khalili Bazaar.

Day 15, Sunday - Cairo
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
